FAQ
Who is Brightfield for?
Brightfield is designed for pre-university students — specifically those in their final two years of pre-university studies, such as IB, A-Levels, the French Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement (AP), or equivalent qualifications.
What will I actually do during the programme?
Each project varies by subject area, but all are hands-on and collaborative. Students are placed in small teams and work under the guidance of a university-level mentor. While the mentor leads the structure, the work is spread evenly across participants — and requires at least an intermediate understanding of the chosen subject.
How are students selected?
Brightfield selects students based on a combination of academic merit and demonstrated motivation. We’re looking for applicants who are genuinely curious, committed, and eager to explore their chosen subject area more deeply.
Who are the mentors?
All Brightfield mentors are current undergraduates or postgraduates studying at leading universities — including those many of our applicants are targeting. Mentors are selected not just for academic excellence, but for their ability to guide and support motivated pre-university students.
What kinds of projects will I work on?
Projects vary depending on the subject. For example, in Law, you might develop legal arguments and write a case brief. In Accounting, you may analyse a real-world company and present strategic financial recommendations. Each project is designed to simulate the kind of thinking you’ll do at university — while producing a tangible output for your application.
How is this different from other university prep or summer programmes?
Many university prep programmes are either too broad or overly academic with little practical relevance. Brightfield strikes a balance: projects are academically grounded but rooted in real-world application. They’re also subject-specific — not generalised workshops or lectures.
How long is the programme?
Each Brightfield project lasts approximately 4 weeks.
Can I choose which subject area I want to focus on?
Yes. You’ll indicate your preferred subject area when applying, and we’ll match you with a relevant project and mentor.
Do I receive a certificate or reference?
Yes. Brightfield provides all participants with a formal certificate of completion as well as a mentor reference that can be used for applications.
Can international students apply?
Yes. Brightfield is open to all pre-university students, regardless of nationality or location.
What’s the cost of the programme?
Brightfield is currently free for all participants in the 2025 cycle.
When can I apply?
We run three application cycles each year: June, September, and January. Each cycle opens at the start of the month and remains open for 21 days.
